Born in 1985 in Crete, the greek dj/producer Antonis Chochlakis has made his first step in the hard dance music in 2005 with a remix for the legendary Megara vs Dj Lee – The Megara along his lifelong friend, Nikos Bikakis. Together they achieved numerous releases and remixes under their hardstyle aliases El Grekoz & Illegal Chemistry and in 2012, they had their first hard trance release under “Mindflux” project which gone to hiatus till 2016. Now, Mindflux is reborn as Antonis’ solo act
How’s it going Mindflux? Thanks for taking some time out for a little one on one!
Thanks for having me mate! Life’s good at the moment yet, I wish days would last longer. hahaha
Give me the run down on how you got into electronic dance music (hard trance, trance ) and becoming a DJ/Producer.
Back in the early 00’s, I discovered a local radio show that was playing eurotrance. I really liked it but it was a year or two later when I found proper trance and hard trance through the internet and got hooked with the sound. So, the more I listened to music the more my mind was processing the tracks. “Hmmm that sounds good but what if it sounded that way?” became a common question inside my head and thankfully, absolutely randomly, Propellerhead’s Reason 1.5 fell into my hands and my journey into music production began.
What’s the story behind the name Mindflux?
The name is a combination of the words “mind” and “flux” which means flow in Latin. It represents the course to the conception of a theme and how you put the idea that’s alive in your mind, to music.
What’s next for Mindflux?
Good question! Making the most of music I can with my current schedule, is a challenge I’m trying to overcome. I also want to learn new stuff and techniques in order to develop and evolve my sound.
Who knows, maybe by the end of the year, I’ll be switching my workstation too as I feel quite limited now.
Are you working on any new productions?
The past couple of weeks I’m working on a collaboration with D4RYL, a brittish upcoming producer and it’s called “The Traveller”. When it’s done, my “Malcolm’s Paradox EP” will be completed and set for release on Hyper Reality Records. I’m super excited about it as every track, has a different approach to Hard Trance! Other than that, I’m working on another collab with my good friend from Denmark, Dizmaster, which hopefully, will be done this month too. Last but not least, I’ve been assigned to do a remix for one of my favorite tracks from last year, “Aponaut – Dream Of Eternity”. Of course there are more projects on the makings but it’s quite early to discuss about them. 😉
Tell me something I am the first to know?
Soundwise, 2018 is the year of exploration for Mindflux. I want to develop my style as much as possible in order to deliver a memorable album next year…
Yup, the plan is to make a big phat hard trance album next year and you are the first to know!
If you have 24 hours to live? What would you do?
Spend every second of it with my loved ones of course.
What are some of your short term and long-term goals? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In short term, I’d like to make lots of music. It’s a passion that feeds my soul so, I wanna exploit it as much as possible. Now, my long-term goal is to look back in 5-10 years and be proud of what I’ve done till then. My ambitions are definitely not running any short though!
If you could collaborate with a one of your favorite producers who would it be and why?
Lots of names pop to the back of my head but I’d pick someone who’s style ain’t nothing like mine. A*S*Y*S for instance, is a great example. I’d love to listen how his massive acid riffs would work with my melodic style. (Frank what do you say? 😛 )
What are your top five favorite tracks of all time?
That’s a very tough question but I’ll write down the first ones I can think of…
Cosmic Gate – Back To Earth (S.H.O.K.K. Remix)
Kaylab – Here We Go (JamX & De Leon’s DuMonde Remix)
Global Cee – Burning (Kan Cold Remix)
Van Der Karsten – C.R.Y. (Megara vs Dj Lee Remix)
Orion’s Voice – Cockroaches (Dj Scot Project Remix)
In three words, describe your sound.
Melodic Hard Trance
Any last words you would like to say?
Remember that music is the universal language everyone speaks, it unites and bring people across the corners of the earth together. Always cherish that! Thanks for having me again! 🙂
